IELTS Online is the new way to take IELTS Academic and has the same content and format as our IELTS Academic in-centre test. It is therefore a reliable and trusted test for test takers who may prefer to take the test at home or for those who can’t reach a test centre.
Multi-layered approach to a secure test
- It is backed by world-class pre- and post-test security measures used for all IELTS tests. Further security measures are in place via live online proctoring conducted by invigilators who are recruited, trained, and managed directly by IELTS. In addition to the live proctors there is AI monitoring to flag any malpractice.
Same high-quality content and format as IELTS taken in a test centre
- IELTS Online has the same format and content as our in-centre tests. All tests are marked by certified IELTS examiners and results are available within 6–8 days. IELTS Online has exactly the same marking criteria and scoring system as IELTS, so there is no need to learn or compare scores. You can rely on IELTS trusted band scores.
Human intelligence
- As with in-centre testing the Speaking test will be conducted in real-time with a trained IELTS examiner. In the IELTS Online test, the speaking section happens via a secure video call. The format and questions are exactly the same, providing you with reassurance of the test taker’s proficiency in English.

IELTS Online gives your applicants more opportunity to meet your English language requirements. Here’s how you will receive the results:
- IELTS Online results will be available electronically via the IELTS Results Verification Service. No paper Test Report Forms will be issued.
- If you are an IELTS recognising organisation (education institutions only*) and you already receive your IELTS results electronically then you do not need to do anything. You will receive IELTS Online results automatically. If you do not want to receive IELTS Online results, please update your account details.
- If your organisation would like to receive IELTS Online results but is not registered for electronic scores (E-Download Service), then please register here.
* As with all online tests, IELTS Online is not currently accepted for visa and immigration purposes.
