Online registration in the USA

Introducing a new IELTS USA Online Registration System.

See below for step-by-step instructions on how to sign up for an IELTS test in the USA today.

We recommend you try to book your IELTS test at least 1–2 months in advance.

After you find a convenient test center location in the United States, continue to the selected location’s registration page by clicking ‘Book Now’ and follow the directions below:

  1. Select ‘United States of America’ under Country and choose the State/City under ‘Location’.
  2. Select the Test Type (Academic or General) and indicate whether you have any Disability Requirements.
  3. Select the preferred ‘Independent Center’ and click on the test date to review the Selected Test Session Summary, then press ‘Continue’.
  4. If you are an existing user, select ‘Login’. If you are a new user, select ‘Create New User’ and register for an account by agreeing to the terms and conditions and completing the application form.
  5. Register for your test and submit payment as specified by the center.
  6. Review the email instructions sent by the test center to make sure your registration is complete, so you don’t lose your seat for the test.


Be sure to inform your test center as soon as possible (at least 90 days in advance) if you have a disability or other condition that requires special arrangements for you on test day.

Test scores will be available to you 13 days following your test date. 

Once you’ve entered your contact details, make sure the address you input is accurate because this will be the mailing address the test center will use to mail your IELTS test results. You will then be directed to a page to add up to five organizations where you would like your IELTS results to be sent.

You can request that your scores be sent to an organization for up to 2 years following your test date.

Your test scores remain valid for 2 years following your test date.

Cancellations and Refunds

You will need to contact the test center where you booked your test for a cancellation or a transfer request. 

If the request to cancel or postpone the test is made five weeks ahead of the test, you will receive a refund minus an administration fee that is up to 25% of the test fee. Please note refunds can take up to four weeks to process. 

If the request to cancel or postpone the test is made within five weeks of the test date, the full test fee will be charged unless you have a serious medical reason. You will need to provide medical documentation within five working days of the test date, this will be assessed for eligibility by the test center. A refund minus the administration charge up to 25% of the test fee will be processed.
